Mamma Mia

Vittorio Gassman (September 1, 1922 - June 29, 2000) was many things: a megastar in his native Italy, certo; an accomplished and respected actor, definitely; an MGM contract player, briefly; a certifiable dreamboat, obviously. But the denizens of Stirred, Straight Up with a Twist probably know him best as Mr. Shelley Winters (1952-1954), tumultuously.

  2. She was a sex symbol like Marilyn Monroe, weren't they roommates?
If MM hadn't died so young we might have watched her go through the same transition from sex symbol to heavy set character actress.

Maybe there is something to that "die young~stay pretty" thing? I think Marilyn would have preferred remaining the Icon she is now then deal with being an aging has been.

  3. I'm not advocating early death, but I'm sure there is a certain measure of "relief", so to speak, in not having to deal with aging. Not everyone ages as handsomely as some (such as you, sir), and even those who eventually DO aren't psychic and can't foresee the future...in a highly visual world, LOSING one's looks is a scarier prospect, I think, than not having 'em in the first place.

Gosh, it's just so hard being pretty!
